Leadership Succession Study

Internal Impact Research & Industry Benchmarking

Through my work with architecture and design firms navigating leadership transitions, I've seen the critical need for greater focus on the social and emotional implications of these changes. While firms invest heavily in financial and legal frameworks, the human impact on teams, culture, and relationships requires equal attention to ensure successful transitions.

We are conducting a study to address this gap by examining the human and relational dynamics of succession planning. The results will be shared with you Q4 2026.

RESEARCH FOCUS

Data will be collected from three stakeholder groups who have experienced internal leadership transitions:

  1. Departing Leader: Legacy concerns, selection criteria, and transition psychology. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/departingleaders

  2. Incoming Leader: Authority establishment, inherited challenges, identity shifts. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IncomingLeader

  3. Firm Team Member: Workplace dynamics, transparency impact, career implications. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/firmteammember

PARTICIPATION

  • Confidential survey: 10-15 minutes

  • Complete anonymity in all reporting and analysis

STUDY OUTCOMES

Findings will be synthesized into practical tools for the industry:

  • Transition Management Protocol

  • Communication Framework
